What do you get when you combine a chicken named Elvis, a locked diary, and a secret Violet Parker does not want to share with her daughter?

SEEING TROUBLE is the first of many short stories involving the characters of the Deadwood Mystery series. (Bonus character interview, illustrations, and non-related short story also included.)

Seeing Trouble A Short Story from the Deadwood Humorous Mystery Series Deadwood Shorts edition by Ann Charles CS Kunkle Literature Fiction eBooks

Violet Parker, of the purple boots, is one of my favorite characters. She would make an awesome friend in real life, since you would never have to pay for entertainment again! I have known a few Violet-like characters in my lifetime, and loved every one of them. They enriched my soul. Violet Parker, the character, does the same for me, but vicariously through Ann's books, which is a lot less messy, if not quite as much fun. People who lead messy lives, like the Violet character, may be frustrating at times, but life would be so boring without a few of them around. This short story fills in a few facts about how Violet got where she was when we met her in the Deadwood series and helps us understand how those events inform her current world view. A good read.

I always wish for more of Violet Parker and her stories. Not a true complaint...just a wish! The short stories are nice fillers while waiting for the next book.
I enjoy this series it Fills in some gaps in the Deadwood series plus a nice little story to go with it. all the adventure and tense moments that occur along the way!
Knowing more about Violet and her past sheds some light on her personality. She lives a chaotic life and has such a wide variety of people in her circle.
It explains a lot about her family. If you like learning more about the characters then this is something you want to read.

Any book by Ann Charles is a good read. Her characters are realistic and engaging. Not the same old mile high, anorexic, beauty queens but down to earth, not perfect but extremely fun people you can really relate to. If you are looking for entertainment that takes you away for a while try a trip to Deadwood or Jackpot Junction. You just can't go wrong.
As a huge fan of the Deadwood series and Ann Charles' writing in general, I thoroughly enjoyed reading these short stories. It was great to finally learn the events that led Violet to her present adventures in Deadwood.
As always, I love Violet's precocious children the most. I love their hilarious antics! Their brilliance and unique abilities now make perfect sense, given the background we've now been supplied with.

"Candy Lover" was a cute little bonus too!

Very believable characters and funny, well thought out plot lines.

My appetite is sufficiently whetted for Deadwood novel #4!
The stories are mediocre at best. They do not provide as much background information as the synopsis insinuates. The free story is a waste of a couple of pages.
I enjoyed the Deadwood short and the interview, but not the other story so much. The Deadwood Short does elaborate a bit more on some of the issues in Violet's family relations.
